This is YOUR congressional office and we are here to listen, help and get to work on your behalf. I am committed to elevating your voice every time I walk onto the House floor.
Below is this week’s update. Each week you can find some insight on votes and committee hearings, important district events and more. I am proud to serve as your Member of Congress and want you to know that my team and I are here for you and your family, always.
Always in service,

D.C. Recap:
Financial Services Committee
Last week, I was appointed to continue serving on the the House Financial Services Committee. This committee oversees all components of the nation’s housing and financial services sectors including banking, insurance, real estate, public and assisted housing, and securities. On this committee, I will fight to ensure that Michigan’s 12th Congressional District, one of the most vulnerable districts in our country, has access to the finances and resources needed to thrive. I will focus on ensuring that residents have access to affordable housing, work to help improve credit scores, alleviate medical debt, lower auto insurance prices and uplift other financial needs of residents.
Muslim and African Ban Anniversary
Last week, I joined colleagues and advocates to mark the 6th anniversary of the Muslim and African Ban. The discriminatory Muslim and African Ban set the tone for increased xenophobia and Islamophobia in this country. This ban separated many families and has brought deep despair to many. I am proud that President Biden repealed this hateful Muslim and African Ban as one of his first actions. The Muslim and African Ban was not based on any legitimate concern but is instead rooted in the hate that we must continue to adamantly reject in order for this country to move forward. As I raise two Muslim boys in the United States, I have a painful memory of my son indicating that he would hide his faith because of the hateful actions and rhetoric of many in this country – that feeling should not be a reality for anyone, no matter their background. We have much more work to do to combat racism, xenophobia, and Islamophobia. I call on my colleagues to pass the No BAN Act, which would prevent any policy like the this ban from ever being implemented again.
Heartland Caucus Launch
I had the honor of joining my colleagues to launch the Heartland Caucus and ensure that we legislate on the issues that are impacting our residents back home. The caucus is being led by Congresswoman Debbie Dingell, focusing on matters pertaining to residents living in America’s Heartland, including manufacturing, labor, the Great Lakes, energy and environment, agriculture, racial equity, rural health care, trade, broadband, and infrastructure. Our communities deserve to have solutions that will ensure that they never have to choose between putting food on the table or keeping a roof over their heads. Moving with urgency is what my residents are demanding. And I know my colleagues in this caucus will join me in moving with that urgency.
Dads Caucus Launch
Last week, I had the honor of joining my colleagues as a founding member of the Congressional Dads Caucus. As a founder of the Mama’s Caucus, I understand how important it is to support working parents and families in our communities. I’m proud to be a member of the Dads Caucus to ensure we are advancing policies that celebrate fatherhood and supports working families. The Dads Caucus will help ensure that fathers and families are provided with paid family leave, expand the Child Tax Credit, increase access to childcare, and work to implement other policies that reduce poverty and assist vulnerable communities.
National Mentoring Month
January is National #MentoringMonth. With a mentor, young people are, 52% less likely to skip a day of school, 78% more likely to volunteer regularly, 130% more likely to hold a leadership position in a club or sports team. My mentors helped me get where I am today. This week, I met with constituent advocates of MENTOR, to discuss expanding access to quality youth mentoring programs. This month, we recognize the value of supporting young people. Learn how you can help close that mentoring gap at: mentoring.org.
Happy Birthday Michigan
Last week, I celebrated Michigan’s birthday with the state’s House Delegation. Happy birthday, Michigan! It’s an honor to represent Michigan’s amazing residents in #12thDistrictStrong. I will continue to fight for you in Congress each and every day.
