The 2023 edition of the popular law school guide includes student reflections that praise the law faculty and staff’s commitment to a student-centered, highly experiential education focused on their professional growth and success.

Elon University School of Law has been named for the eighth consecutive year in an influential college guide that showcases the nation’s best law schools.
The Princeton Review listed Elon Law in its 2023 guidebook of “The Best 168 Law Schools,” which features profiles that are annually updated with information about admission requirements, academics, financial aid, campus life, and graduates’ employment
Now in its 16th year, Elon Law in downtown Greensboro is the preeminent school for engaged and experiential learning in law. With a focus on learning by doing, it integrates traditional classroom instruction with course-connected, full-time residencies-in-practice in a logically sequenced program of transformational professional preparation.
Elon Law’s approach is accomplished in 2.5 years, which provides distinctive value by lowering tuition and permitting graduates early entry into their legal careers. Since the adoption of its accelerated program, student loan debt at graduation has been cut by nearly a third, and strategic investments in faculty and staff have led to ultimate bar pass and post-graduate career placement rates that have annually ranged from 87-90%.
Student Reflections as Reported by The Princeton Review
- Professors “are what make this school shine” and are “very helpful in crafting the legal learning process” but they also “take time to listen to the students and want them to have a successful law career.”
- Elon Law features “faculty [who] strongly support our open discussions about the issues that marginalized communities in our school face.”
- “The residency program is a tremendous asset to this school,” and students are able to influence their placements based upon their own special interests in specific areas of the law.
- Students say that Elon Law is “well-organized for planning coursework and facilitating student connections with jobs and internships” and that faculty “really take the time to hire quality professors … who are experts in their field.”
- The librarians “are the best [in] the business” because they “are passionate, patient, and precipitant in academic success.”
The Princeton Review’s rankings of Best Law Schools for 2023 are based on data from the company’s surveys of administrators at 168 law schools in 2021-22, and surveys of 17,000 students enrolled at the schools during the 2021-22, 2020-21, and 2019–20 school years. On average, surveys from 101 students per school were tallied for the 2023 rankings.
“Our students often tell us how much they value the experiential education they receive through our distinctive residency program, moot court and mock trial offerings, clinics, and externships,” said Elon Law Interim Dean Alan Woodlief. “Yet the profound impact of those programs isn’t possible without a law faculty and staff deeply committed to placing our students at the center of all we do. The reflections shared in this year’s Princeton Review are evidence of our emphasis on mentoring – and on ensuring that Elon Law graduates are well prepared for distinguished careers and lives of meaning.”
