WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A group of seven U.S. senators on Tuesday proposed sweeping consumer protections for airline passengers after a series of disruptions over the last year.
U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal and Edward Markey introduced the “Passengers’ Bill of Rights and the Forbidding Airlines from Imposing Ridiculous Fees Act” to expand protections for air travelers.
The bill would require airlines to pay at least $1,350 to passengers denied boarding as a result of an oversold flight, provide ticket refunds and alternative transportation for delayed flights and prohibit airlines from shrinking plane seat sizes further pending further regulations.
