To me, it\u2019s never about whether they\u2019re a Republican or Democrat.\u201d It&#8217;s about\u00a0their \u201ccore values,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<aside aria-label=\"advertisement\" class=\"gnt_m gnt_x gnt_x__lbl gnt_x__al\"\/>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Salway and Sandoval said they showed up for propositions on the ballot as well,\u00a0especially to vote against <a href=\"http:\/\/news.google.com\/story\/news\/politics\/elections\/2022\/10\/15\/arizona-prop-128-129-and-132-what-they-do-what-you-should-know\/8207325001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-t-l=\":b|e|inline click|${u}\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">the propositions that aim to change ballot initiative rules<\/a>. Sandoval said that Proposition 129 specifically was &#8220;a bit concerning if it passes.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Sandoval has seen firsthand the problems with the rising cost of healthcare, she said. She said she voted yes for Proposition 209, which would limit interest rates on medical debt and increase property protections for debt collection.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"gnt_em gnt_em_anc\" id=\"gnt_atomsnc\" data-g-r=\"lazy\" data-gl-method=\"loadAnc\" aria-label=\"Newsletter signup form\"\/>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Sandoval was both surprised and happy that medical debt was on the ballot, she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cMedical debt is so massive for people, especially when you\u2019re dealing with long-term care or chronic illness or terminal illness,\u201d she said. \u201cNot only are you fighting for your life, but you end up fighting for your home or your stability because it can be absolutely crippling.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Larry Dillie, 76, voted in person at the Islamic Center in Scottsdale on Tuesday. He said his top issues were inflation, crime and the border.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Dillie said he felt the election was very secure, but only because he waited to fill out his ballot in person. Several voters said abortion rights, the economy and water conservation were at top of mind as they cast their ballots.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Brothers Thomas and Steven Womack said inflation and border security were the most important issues to them. They both voted for Kari Lake for governor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cI think she focuses on issues really well,\u201d said Steven Womack, 60.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Software engineer Saif Azharuddin said he was motivated to vote because not enough young people do.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cI feel like most younger people are too online, and I don\u2019t want to be part of the problem,\u201d the 25-year-old said. He said he was motivated to vote by abortion rights, casting ballots for pro-choice candidates.<\/p>\n<aside aria-label=\"advertisement\" class=\"gnt_m gnt_x gnt_x__lbl gnt_x__al\"\/>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cWhen it comes to actual rights to people, I think that everyone should have a right to choose. I feel abortion was like the main issue, so just wanted to make sure women have that right,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Dozens of volunteers canvassing for candidates and propositions walked up and down the line to talk to voters, some even handing out pizza to people waiting in line.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\"><em>\u2014 Juliette Rihl and Rafael Carranza<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"gnt_ar_b_mt\">3:40 p.m.: Election denial group calls for protests<\/h2>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">An election denial group is calling for dual rallies on Tuesday in Maricopa and Pima counties to protest voting machines.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The group, 2020 Is Nullified, issued a call on social media for supporters to gather at 8 p.m. outside the Maricopa County Tabulation and Election Center in Phoenix and at the Pima County Recorder\u2019s Office in Tucson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cStand in solidarity with fellow Americans to demand a hand count\u201d of ballots, the group said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The group maintains voting machines are not legal and have not been certified.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Election officials say the tabulation machines are certified by state and federal inspectors, which is required under the law.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\"><em>\u2014 Robert Anglen<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"gnt_ar_b_mt\"><a id=\"gpd-1667946750005\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_ba\"\/> 3:30 p.m.: Flagstaff voters say ballots have impact in battleground Arizona<\/h2>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Voting across Flagstaff was proceeding smoothly on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Brad Dorman, 44, turned out to cast a ballot because, in competitive battleground states like Arizona, voters have an opportunity to make a clear difference, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cStates tend to have gone in one direction or stayed in one direction to where you may feel like, \u2018Does it really count if I go in and vote?\u2019\u201d Dorman said. \u201cIn a battleground state, that\u2019s where really the majority of the money is being poured.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside aria-label=\"advertisement\" class=\"gnt_m gnt_x gnt_x__lbl gnt_x__al\"\/>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">While the midterms historically have a lower voter turnout than presidential\u00a0election years, Damon pointed out that many of the issues represented on\u00a0the 2022 ballot will have local effects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cI feel like it\u2019s the local stuff and even state that has a more direct impact\u201d on voters\u2019 lives, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Jim Ellis has lived in Flagstaff for 56 years and cast his ballot at Flagstaff High School\u00a0on Tuesday afternoon,\u00a0just down the street from his home.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cSo many things are at stake, primarily our democracy,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">\u201cWhen you got people that are well-educated, and they\u2019re denying that Biden is the president, you know something\u2019s wrong,\u201d Ellis said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\"><em>\u2014 Lacey Latch<\/em><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"gnt_ar_b_mt\"><a id=\"gpd-1667945532659\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_ba\"\/> 3:15 p.m.: Maricopa County identifies tabulator issue<\/h2>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Maricopa County has identified a solution to solve ongoing problems with tabulators at voting locations across the county, officials said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">The issues, which impacted about 60 polling places \u2014 30% of sites \u2014 were related to timing marks on ballots.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">In Maricopa County, printers at polling sites produce ballots on demand so that voters can vote at any location in the county, rather than being assigned a polling place. The formatting marks on the ballots produced by some printers weren\u2019t printing dark enough for the tabulators to read, officials said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Technological support staff have already resolved the issue at 17 locations, according to county officials.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">&#8220;I am very sorry for any voter who has been frustrated or inconvenienced today in Maricopa County,&#8221; Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer said in a statement. \u201cEvery legal vote will be tabulated. I promise.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside aria-label=\"advertisement\" class=\"gnt_m gnt_x gnt_x__lbl gnt_x__al\"\/>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Richer said per state statute, the county recorder is generally responsible for voter registration and early voting, and the county board of supervisors for emergency voting, Election Day and tabulation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Voters who are running into issues with tabulators can place their ballots in a secure ballot box labeled \u201cdrawer 3\u201d to be counted or can go to a different voting location. Most locations are\u00a0unaffected by tabulator issues, according to the county. The world has gone crazy lately,\u201d Jensen said. Jensen usually votes with a mail-in ballot, but she didn\u2019t receive one this election, she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Rahn said women\u2019s rights were an important issue for him during this election.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">A poll inspector at the site said other than printer jam issues, which are typical, things have been running smoothly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"gnt_ar_b_p\">Luz Acosta said the voting process was quick, with no lines or issues.
