      Public health, pandemic preparedness, infectious disease control, research to drive biomedical and health breakthroughs, veterans\u2019 medical care, mental health services, and food insecurity will be among the beneficiaries of $1.7tn in US government spending in 2023.<\/p>\n

      The US Congress passed the 2023 Omnibus Appropriations Bill on 23 December, which President Joe Biden said he would sign. The bill includes almost $800bn in non-defence funding until 30 September 2023, a $68bn or 9.3% increase over 2022.<\/p>\n

      The National Institutes of Health will receive $47.5bn, a 5.6% increase, said a summary of the 4155 page bill released by Senator Patrick Leahy, chairman of the Committee on Appropriations.1<\/span> The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will receive $9.2bn, an increase of $760m. More than half of CDC\u2019s increase will go on fundamental public health activities, including the public health infrastructure and \u2026 <\/p>\n
