Their contracts expired Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>        <!-- hearst\/article\/content\/embed.tpl --><\/p>\n<section class=\"article--content-embed inline-iframe\" data-eid=\"item-96898\">\n<\/section>\n<p><!-- e hearst\/article\/content\/embed.tpl -->            <\/p>\n<p>\u201cStriking is always a last resort, but nurses say they are prepared to strike if hospital administration gives them no other option to protect their patients and their practice,\u201d the New York State Nurses Association said in a statement over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The union issued a 10-day notice that it intends to strike if an agreement isn&#8217;t reached.
