Many Democrats rue those talks, which took place when Biden was vice president.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Biden thinks he has the higher political ground<\/strong>: Refusing to negotiate can be a dangerous proposition, but the White House thinks raising the debt ceiling should not be about negotiations \u2014 especially if doing so could result in changes to Medicare and Social Security.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Read more about the fight over the federal debt limit:\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said Thursday he is confident that the U.S. will <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/senate\/3819666-mcconnell-us-never-will-default-on-its-debt\/\">never default<\/a> on its debt and that he is not concerned a financial crisis could be on the horizon.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Sen. Roughly 20 percent of workers were union members in 1983.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>That trend continued last year, even as the number of union petitions rose 53 percent and workers at Amazon, Starbucks, Apple and other companies voted to unionize for the first time.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The AFL-CIO said that Thursday\u2019s figures \u201cdon\u2019t capture\u201d the recent surge in organizing.
