(photo provided)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\nIndiana University School of Medicine has named Dr. Chemen Neal its first executive associate dean for diversity, equity, inclusion and justice and chief diversity officer. Neal will work with academic, research and clinical leaders across the organization to advance DEIJ strategic priorities.<\/p>\n
Neal joined the faculty at IUSM in 2011, and currently serves as an associate clinical professor of obstetrics and gynecology.<\/p>\n
During her time at IU School of Medicine, Neal has served as chair and co-chair of the IU School of Medicine Diversity Council.<\/p>\n

Finding a transformative leader to serve as our first executive associate dean for diversity, equity, inclusion and justice was critical to our success as an organization moving forward,\u201d said IU School of Medicine Dean and Executive Vice President for University Clinical Affairs Dr. Jay Hess. \u201cDr. Neal\u2019s longstanding success here at IU School of Medicine as a clinician, educator, mentor and diversity champion will position the school well as we strive for inclusive excellence.\u201d<\/p>\n
IU School of Medicine says the new DEIJ leadership role will give Neal an opportunity to continue her mission of helping others reach their full potential, while solving some the school\u2019s most complex challenges through collaboration.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs the largest medical school in the country, we have a responsibility to be leaders in health equity and inclusive excellence. To do that, DEIJ must be woven into all aspects of what we do\u2014research, education, patient care, faculty and staff affairs, and community engagement,\u201d said Neal.<\/p>\n
Neal earned her medical degree at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at IU School of Medicine in 2008.<\/p>\n
She will officially begin in her new role on February 1.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n\n
