BOSTON \u2013 State Representative\u00a0Carmine\u00a0Gentile announced today that he has filed 39 bills for the 193rd Session of the Massachusetts legislature.<\/p>\n
These pieces of legislation focus on a wide range of issues important to the residents of the 13th<\/sup>\u00a0Middlesex District and the Commonwealth.<\/p>\n \u201cI am committed to pushing for changes that help working families, make the Commonwealth more equitable, and improve our collective wellbeing,\u201d said Representative Gentile.<\/p>\n In the prior legislative session, Representative Gentile filed and successfully passed legislation to promote employee ownership of companies, fund compensatory services for students with disabilities who turned 22 in the pandemic, and make rail trail acquisition easier for municipalities. He also joined with colleagues to pass landmark legislation to combat climate change, allow immigrants to get drivers licenses, and ban child marriage.\u00a0<\/p>\n This session, the bills filed by Representative Gentile include measures to regulate harmful pesticides such as glyphosate, reverse the tide of dark money in politics, and make important reforms to our justice system.<\/p>\n \u201cI am especially proud to be the primary sponsor this session on legislation supported by the League of Women Voters and Common Cause to allow Same-Day Voter Registration,\u201d said Representative Gentile (HD.2537). \u201cVoting is the foundation of our democracy, and we must do everything in our power to make it as accessible as possible. No one should be disenfranchised simply because they changed addresses, got married, or were otherwise unable to register beforehand.\u201d<\/p>\n Another priority bill for Representative Gentile is the Debt-Free Future Act (HD.1215\/SD.1946). Co-filed with Representative Natalie Higgins (D-Leominster) in the House and Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Acton) in the Senate, this legislation would guarantee every Massachusetts resident a right to a public higher education free of tuition, fees, and student debt. \u201cOur broken public higher education system is drowning our students in debt.
