{"id":45198,"date":"2023-01-22T12:36:58","date_gmt":"2023-01-22T12:36:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.brandon.ddtest.info\/multisite-test\/asic-financing-debt-worsened-bitcoin-miners-liabilities-in-2022-report\/"},"modified":"2023-01-22T12:36:58","modified_gmt":"2023-01-22T12:36:58","slug":"asic-financing-debt-worsened-bitcoin-miners-liabilities-in-2022-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.brandon.ddtest.info\/multisite-test\/asic-financing-debt-worsened-bitcoin-miners-liabilities-in-2022-report\/","title":{"rendered":"ASIC financing debt worsened Bitcoin miner\u2019s liabilities in 2022: Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> \n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bitcoin miners faced difficulties paying off debt in 2022, particularly when they had high-interest equipment financing loans, according to a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/hashrateindex.com\/blog\/untenable-bitcoin-mining-debt-led-to-defaults-acquisition-in-2022\/\">report<\/a> by Hashrate Index.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report stated.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe estimate that there is between $2-4 billion worth of ASIC financing debt on private and public miner balance sheets.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>According to the <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">analysis<\/span>, 6 ASIC financing deals were executed in 2020 worth $47.84 million, while 26 deals worth $662.25 million were completed in 2021.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A growing number of equipment financiers have entered the market since 2020, resulting in an average interest rate of 10.46% in 2022, down from 12.77% in 2020 and 12.82% in 2021. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Consequently, there were more deals in the first half of 2022 \u2013 18 agreements totaling $641.80 million, of which 16 ($576.80 million) were made in the first half.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, market conditions deteriorated in the second half, resulting in a decrease in ASIC deals. Several miners defaulted on these loans as miners\u2019 revenue declined, and their payments were due in 2022. The study outlined:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our tally (of known defaults from public miners) puts the total default amount at $227.4 million on the low end and $238.4 million on the high end. <\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Many of these loans were collateralized with the ASICs themselves, so in the event of default, many of these entities ended up with their financiers.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to data, BTC mining companies have <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/public-btc-mining-companies-face-4b-in-liabilities-core-scientific-leads-the-pack\/\">$4 billion<\/a> in liabilities, with Core Scientific at the top.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>A challenging year for the mining sector<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Defaults and bankruptcy shook the mining sector in 2022. In addition to the market condition, miners also had to deal with high electricity costs and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/bitcoin-mining-difficulty-to-end-year-rising-by-3\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">record mining difficulty<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Due to this, the miner\u2019s daily revenue <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/bitcoin-miner-revenue-down-37-5-in-2022-yoy\/\">fell sharply<\/a> to $16.38 million on Dec. 31, 2022\u2013 down from $63.548 million on Nov. 10, 2021.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the increased debt burden, some mining firms began to sell their assets. This includes <a href=\"https:\/\/hashrateindex.com\/blog\/quantifying-compute-norths-363-asset-sale-who-bought-what-and-how-much-money-was-raised\/\">Compute North\u2019s 363 asset sale<\/a>, which saw Compute North\u2019s data centers distributed among its creditors after it filed for bankruptcy. Further, Argo Blockchain <a href=\"https:\/\/cryptoslate.com\/argo-shares-soar-following-65m-sale-of-mining-facility-to-galaxy-digital\/\">sold its Helios mining facility<\/a> in Texas to Galaxy Digital for $65 million and obtained a $35 million loan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, the current situation also presents a chance for those who can invest in assets or increase their margins by innovating.
