Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) said on Sunday that he plans to meet with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) to discuss a \u201cpathway forward\u201d on a deal to raise the debt ceiling.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During an appearance on Fox Business\u2019 \u201cSunday Morning Futures,\u201d Manchin told host Maria Bartiromo that he believes the Biden administration will become involved in the debt ceiling negotiations, even though the White House has so far refused to engage. <\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cI know there\u2019s \u2014 there\u2019s so much rhetoric that comes out that we got \u2014 and I think everyone knows we cannot default on our debt, the United States of America, the\u2026full faith of the government and the Treasury, that we\u2019re going to pay our debts,\u201d he said. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Manchin also told Bartiromo that he recently spoke with McCarthy, and plans to meet with the speaker in an effort to find a resolution on the debt ceiling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd I said, Kevin, let\u2019s \u2014 we\u2019re going to sit down when I go back and look at, is there a pathway forward?\u201d Manchin told Bartiromo. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, hopefully, that we can recognize that we have a runaway debt.
