Comaroff\u2019s class Tuesday afternoon to protest his teaching again after he was placed on leave last year for violating the school\u2019s sexual harassment and professional conduct policies. <\/p>\n<p>The Harvard Crimson, the school\u2019s student newspaper, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecrimson.com\/article\/2023\/1\/25\/comaroff-walkout-spring-23\/\">reported<\/a> that the students protested Comaroff\u2019s first lecture of the year by plastering the walls of the building where he teaches <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecrimson.com\/article\/2023\/1\/25\/comaroff-walkout-2023\/\">with signs reading<\/a> \u201cAbusers have no place on campus\u201d and \u201cStop protecting sexual predators.\u201d After Comaroff started his lecture, students stood up from their seats and walked out, chanting \u201cJustice for survivors\u201d and \u201cNo more Comaroff, no more complicity,\u201d the student newspaper reported. <\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\">\n<\/aside>\n<p>Harvard student Rosie Couture <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rosiecouturee\/status\/1618039887030255616\">tweeted a video of students<\/a> walking out of the classroom that showed students protesting seconds after Comaroff started his lecture. A similar walkout occurred in Comaroff\u2019s first lecture of the fall 2022 semester, when he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecrimson.com\/article\/2022\/9\/7\/union-protest-comaroff-return\/\">returned<\/a> to teaching after being placed on unpaid administrative leave, the Harvard Crimson reported. <\/p>\n<p>Comaroff, who teaches<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>African and African American studies and anthropology, was placed on unpaid administrative leave for the spring 2022 semester for violating the school\u2019s sexual harassment and professional conduct studies. This suspension came after three anthropology students <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/legal\/593342-harvard-accused-of-ignoring-sexual-harassment-in-new-suit\/\">filed a lawsuit against<\/a> Harvard last spring accusing the university of ignoring serious allegations against Comaroff for years. <\/p>\n<p>In the complaint, the students allege that Comaroff threatened their academic careers if they chose to report him. <\/p>\n<aside class=\"thehill-promo-link\">\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/regulation\/court-battles\/3833744-judge-sentences-jan-6-rioter-who-pepper-sprayed-brian-sicknick-to-80-months-in-prison\/\" class=\"thehill-promo-link__link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n\t\tJudge sentences Jan. 6 rioter who pepper sprayed Brian Sicknick to 80 months in prison\t<\/a><br \/>\n\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/regulation\/court-battles\/3833306-federal-judge-blocks-california-misinformation-law\/\" class=\"thehill-promo-link__link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n\t\tFederal judge blocks California misinformation law\t<\/a><br \/>\n\t<\/aside>\n<p>\u201cWhen students reported him to Harvard and sought to warn their peers about him, Harvard watched as he retaliated by foreclosing career paths and ensuring that those students would have\u00a0\u2019trouble\u00a0getting jobs,\u2019 \u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.mad.242149\/gov.uscourts.mad.242149.1.0_1.pdf\">complaint<\/a> filed in February of 2022 stated. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHarvard even allowed its investigatory process to be used in service of Professor\u00a0Comaroff\u2019s campaign of professional\u00a0blacklisting,\u201d the complaint continues. \u201cThe results have been devastating: Professor Comaroff and his enablers have destroyed the educational opportunities and careers of countless students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of the students who filed the complaint accused Comaroff of kissing her multiple times without her consent and of groping her in public.
